Public benefits
The purpose of South Antrim Community Transport (SACT) is to provide a community transport service for the inhabitants and community groups/associations located in South Antrim and its environs (our area of benefit), who are in need of such a service because of: age, sickness or disability, poverty and/or lack of available or suitable public
transport options, without distinction of sex, race, political or other opinion (as per Section 75 of the NI Act 1998). SACT delivers public benefit though it’s charitable purposes (a) for the relief of poverty and (b) the relief of need; through the provision of accessible transport delivered by the community, for the community. SACT enables volunteering opportunities through administration and governance roles, our volunteer minibus driver scheme and social car scheme. There is no intended harm to any beneficiaries of our services. In providing accessible transport there is a risk of unintended harm from road traffic accident however this is rare and appropriate risk management is in place. This includes driver training, vehicle maintenance, appropriate passenger safety systems and compliance with road safety legislation and regulations. The charity’s intended beneficiaries include people and community groups/associations, which benefit from our provision of accessible transport. SACT work within the community, with other charities, churches and statutory bodies to promote the availability of transport support and subsidised fares to both individuals and the wider community groups/associations in South Antrim. A list of all our members is available in our offices for inspection upon request. SACT record data to ensure: our services are spread across the whole area, equality of service delivery to the various S75 groupings, and that our services continue to meet and focus on delivering our charitable purposes. Our services operate on a not-for-profit basis, reduce social isolation and exclusion and enable people to have access to basic services to improve their health and well-being. The only private benefit flowing from our purposes is that SACT own minibuses. These minibuses are necessary to the achievement of the purpose and the investment is reasonable therefore the private benefit is incidental and is outweighed by the benefit to the beneficiaries. No private individuals receive any personal benefit as a result of our activities.
