Public benefits

1 The public benefits that flow from the first purpose are relief of the poor through the provision of grants, clothing, housing or food. 2 The public benefits that flow from the second purpose are individuals becoming better through receiving medical/health support. 3 The public benefits that flow from the third purpose are enhanced knowledge and

understanding in people through receiving an education. 4 The public benefits that flow from the fourth purpose are more sustainable lifestyles for those living off the land, through biodiversity being maintained and less woodland being lost. 5 The public benefits that flow from the fifth purpose are improved community life through facilities being provided or maintained so that they can be used by a local community. We are an open organisation welcoming people of all ages and from all backgrounds who are interested in volunteering with us. Our beneficiaries are the members of the public in Zomba who seek our aid in the areas outlined above and also members of the public in the Causeway Coast and Glens area wish to who wish to volunteer with us who can gain skills and confidence while providing of their time and expertise. How we prove our benefit is through record keeping of feedback from those who volunteer in our various activities and attend our events. We provide newsletters and flyers, utilise the local press for publicity and take photographs and also collect monitoring information when we access public funds for our activities. A report is produced which evidences the funded projects which have been completed, supported by photographs where appropriate and supplemented by annual or biannual visits from N Ireland to inspect larger projects There is no private benefit accrued to any of our trustees as everyone is treated the same and has equal access to all of our support and services. If conflict of interest arises it is discussed and addressed as part of our trustee meetings to ensure that no private benefit happens. Everyone whether volunteer or member of the public is treated in exactly the same way and there is no privilege or gain attached to any of our activities. Where volunteers acquire training to assist them in the delivery of our objectives, this training may also enhance their employment or volunteering opportunities elsewhere but this gain is necessary for us to be able to deliver our objectives and be compliant with legislation including Access NI and Health and Safety for example. No harm arises from the delivery of our public benefit as all of our activities are well-thought out, planned and risk assessed and all necessary insurances, checks and policies are in place and adhered to under the supervision of our Chairperson and the Trustees of the organisation.

What your organisation does

Anyone or any group in Zomba can apply to be a beneficiary; applications, verbal or written, go to the part time project manager in Zomba, who costs them with the applicant; the group of volunteers in Zomba then considers the applications, rejecting some and prioritising others. The group forwards recommended proposals to the ZAP Management Board

in N Ireland. Agreed projects are then funded by ZAP in Coleraine, through a ZAP bank account in Zomba, under the oversight of the volunteer group there. The availabilty of ZAP funds and the preferences of N Ireland funders, as well as the volunteer group's priorities all influence what projects are funded. The projects are funded from the Zomba bank account, for example scholarship funding direct to the school or college, or through CBOs in Zomba, for example the Bwala Institute for homeless boys, or using other organisations in Zomba to deliver larger projects such as Emmanuel International to oversee the construction of an orphan support centre.
