Public benefits

The Belfast Bible College Limited meets the public benefit requirement by providing benefit to its members, students and the general public by making known the Christian Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through the advancement of religion. The direct benefits which flow from the purposes of the College include the gaining of an understanding in

Christian beliefs as set out in the Bible leading to spiritual and moral development and opportunities for response to Bible teaching. In turn this leads to practical expression of Christian beliefs and standards by members, staff and former students of the College who practise and teach such beliefs and standards to members of the general public both in local communities within Northern Ireland and in other parts of the world where they are called to serve. Generally the above benefits are delivered locally by the teachers employed by the College. Public access is made known through the use of noticeboards, printed material, press advertising, websites and social media or in other ways. The benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of the courses and services by the students participating in the programmes provided, by tri-annual review of the degree courses provided by the College through the Quality Assurance Assessment association and by informal and ad-hoc feedback from students, their families and members of the public. The purpose does not lead to harm. The only private benefit flowing from the purpose is related to the staff of the College who receive salary benefits as a result of their holding employment. However this is incidental and necessary in order to further our charitable purpose. There are no other private benefits. The beneficiaries of this purpose are members, students, their families, other individuals that the College is in direct and indirect contact with, and other communities throughout Northern Ireland, and worldwide which benefit from our engagement with and support for Christian organisations, charities and individual members of the public.

What your organisation does

The College teaches students in a non-denominational setting the truths of the Christian religion explaining and discussing the differences in interpretation of the Biblical text by the major denominations. The college provides a range of courses that are open to anyone with the academic qualification suitable for the course being provided.

Courses cater for members of the public who have no prior knowledge of the Christian religion; those wishing to further their knowledge through evening class or day release courses; undergraduate degree courses currently moderated by the University of Cumbria and for which certain academic standards are required as determined by that University; and post graduate degrees currently moderated by the Queens University of Belfast for which certain academic standards are required as determined by that University. The college also organises meetings and events that promote our charitable purpose and which are open to the general public. The college participates in the life of the local community and overseas though students of the College assisting in churches, missionary societies and charities as part of the practical service element of the courses offered. The college holds services of worship and other religious activities for its students and staff as well as supporters of the College. It encourages prayer in support of the students of the college, other Christian organisations, the community and leaders in society and government.
