Public benefits

To advance education among children of preschool and pre-preschool age in the Carrickfergus area in order to facilitate a successful transition into primary school learning. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is to provide a safe, secure environment where children can be encouraged to attain his or her maximum physical, intellectual,

emotional and social development through the six areas of learning. The benefits are evidenced through staff observations of the children learning through play, feedback from parents/carers throughout the year. Reports from our Early Years Specialist, Social Services annual inspection report and Inspection from the Department of Education N.I. Also feedback from our local primary schools that our children move onto for primary one. There is no harm flowing from the organisations purposes. The beneficiaries are the children who attend our setting and their parents/carers. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose for our Trustees would be the gaining of new skills as they take on roles on our management committee. These are necessary benefits but incidental and therefore necessary for the successful running of the organisation in carrying out our purposes.

What your organisation does

We provide the children in the playgroup the opportunity to learn through play, based on the six areas of learning as outlined in the “Curricular Guidance “ document from the Department of Education N. Ireland. We believe in a structured day, yet giving the children as much freedom of choice as possible. Activities include sand and water, junk art,

painting, drawing, music and movement, woodwork, clay/dough, cookery, songs, rhymes, stories and puppets. We provide props for role play to stimulate social and imaginary play, construction, jigsaws and a book corner where children are encouraged to relax look at books or be read a story by staff. Physical play is outside in a safe enclosed area activities include bikes, trikes, scooters, balls, parachute, hoops, skipping ropes, stilts, bats and balls. The children learn many skills in the playgroup environment how to socialise accept rules and continually develop skills of playing collaboratively with other children. Giving them the opportunity to experience messy play, creative, imaginative, manipulative and physical play under the guidance of caring adults giving them a positive impact encouraging them to learn about the world around them and acquire the skills to help them develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially preparing them for primary school.
