Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to

harm. The benefit is for children at St. Colmcille's High School, Crossgar. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

WE ARE AN ACTIVE PTA WHICH ORGANISES SOCIAL FUNDRAISING EVENTS FOR THE FAMILIES AND CHILDREN OF THE SCHOOL AND WE ACTIVELY VOLUNTEER FOR THE SCHOOL REGULARLY TO ASSIST WITH SOCIAL FUNDRAISING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL, TOGETHER WITH ANY OTHER EVENTS OR MATTERS TO WHICH WE CAN SUPPORT THE SCHOOL AND THE FAMILIES OF THE PUPILS WITHIN THE SCHOOL OUR

PTA IS MADE UP OF A GROUP OF ELECTED PARENTS AND STAFF. ALL PARENTS AND STAFF ARE INVITED TO SHARE THEIR SKILLS AND HELP AT OUR EVENTS WE RUN A PROGRAMME OF EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO PUPILS, THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THE WIDER COMMMUNITY. WE ARE A FAIRLY NEW GROUP AND HAVE HELD A FEW SMALL EVENTS TO DATE BUT HAVE PLANS TO EXPAND THESE EVENTS TO INCLUDE OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY MORE. ALL OUR EVENTS RAISE FUNDS BUT ARE ALSO OPEN TO ALL VISITORS REGARDLESS OF GIFTS GIVEN. IN CLOSE CONSULTATION WITH THE PRINCIPAL AND TEACHERS WE AGREE TO FUND A RANGE OF ITEMS AND SERVICES THAT DIRECTLY BENEFIT THE SCHOOL AND THE CHILDREN. LAST YEAR WE RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF IPADS FOR STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL. OVERALL WE ARE A FUNDRAISING ORGANISATION, BUT AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR ROLE IS PROMOTING SOCIAL INCLUSION, COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND PROVIDING A LESS FORMAL COMMUNICATION CHANNEL BETWEEN THE PARENT BODY AND THE SCHOOL OUR ORGANISATION IS MADE UP OF A GROUP OF ELECTED MUMS, DADS AND STAFF. AS A GROUP WE STRIVE TO ENSURE THAT ALL PARENTS AND STAFF ARE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN OUR OPERATION. WE DO THIS BY SEEKING REGULAR FEEDBACK ON EVENTS AND OPERATION, LOOKING FOR PARENTAL / STAFF SKILLS TO HELP AT EVENTS. WE BELIEVE THAT GOOD COMMUNICATION IS KEY AND THAT IS WHY WE HAVE STARTED UP A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR THE GROUP AND WILL BE UPDATING OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE WITH REGULAR INFORMATION. ALONGSIDE THE SCHOOL WE AGREE THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS IN THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE USED TO PURCHASE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES OR EQUIPMENT FOR ALL THE PUPILS IN THE SCHOOL.
