Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead

to harm. The benefit is for children at Stranmillis Primary school. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

Our PTA is made up of a group of elected parents and staff. All parents and staff are invited to share their skills and help at our events. We run a programme of events throughout the school year, which are available to pupils, their family / friends and the wider commmunity. Every year we run several big fundraisers, a Halloween disco, Christmas

fair, parent dinner night, international food festival and a summer fair. In addition, we run coffee mornings at the nativity plays and other school functions. We host a welcome event for the new nursery children and parents. We are looking to include a few new fundraising ideas this year including parents running the Dublin marathon, a fun run for the children, parents and teachers. In close consultation with the Principal and teachers we have agreed to focus our efforts to fund a range of items and services that directly benefit the school and the children. The aim of the Discovery Project 2014 – 2017 is to raise £25,000 to support the School to build on its continuing success by enhancing the opportunities we provide for the children to discover their world and develop their understanding of key curricular concepts. In particular we would like to: 1. Extend the resources available for the teaching of reading; 2. Provide a greater range of mathematical resources; 3. Extend the suite of i-pads for in class use. Overall we are a fundraising organisation, but an important part of our role is promoting social inclusion, community relations and providing a less formal communication channel between the parent body and the school.
