What your organisation does

MCAG have a management committee elected each year by local residents at the annual AGM. In addition to this there is a pool of additional volunteers who assist when required, at events etc. There is no paid staff and all the work is voluntary. Mallusk Community Action Group (MCAG) was formed in 2008 in response to residents’ concerns around the

environmental damage, road safety, village cleanliness, anti-social behaviour and absence of community facilities in the Village. Mallusk had suffered from the effects of the Landfill site in the village and the increased industrialisation of the area. Key objectives are: • Creating a sense of community. • Having clean and safe roads for visitors and residents • Implementing a Village Improvement Scheme and a Heritage Programme • Put in place the infrastructure to improve community cohesion and establish a community meeting facility for events and activities Since forming MCAG has established a community base at the Academy Sports Club premises and lobbied successfully and secured grants for a range of environmental improvements in the Village; established a quarterly newsletter circulated to 600 households; secured several grants to run annual programmes of community activities; installed a village heritage trail and published a number of heritage publications including ‘Our Thoughts Go Back’ and the ‘Life and Works of William Morrison: the Bard of Mallusk’; we have achieved a Green Flag award for Mallusk cemetery in conjunction with Newtownabbey Council
