Public benefits
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead
to harm. The benefit is for children at Creggan PS. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Creggan PS. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
Friends of Creggan PS is a PTA set up and run by parents and friends of children at Creggan Primary School. Friends of Creggan like any other well run organisation is well structured and operates like a trust. The reason why we set up is simple. As parents, we want the best for our children and what better way to do this than by supporting them as
they progress through primary school. Our main objective over the next 3 to 5 years is to build an outdoor play area for the school that can also be used by our children in and out of school hours and by the whole Creggan community. This will require a lot of capital funding. It’s our intention to seek funding and grant opportunities where possible, to enlist the support of the local business community and to run other fund raising activities to support this. We will continue to support the school by assisting them financially to continue running some of the educational programmes they currently offer to our children. As these are not part of the core curriculum these could be under threat with the ever increasing pressures associated with budget cuts. help support these and the likes of the Accelerated Reading Programme and the Alta Maths Programme. We also intend to run various workshops involving the wider community. Recently we ran a First Aid training evening. Lastly but by no means not least, we would also like to fund an annual school trip for all of the children within the school. The feedback from the recent end of term trip to Carnfunock trip was excellent with children and teachers alike saying how fantastic this was.
