Citizens Advice Community Initiatives is established for the promotion of any charitable purposes for the benefit of the community in Northern Ireland by the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress. Community Initiatives exists to provide a free, independent, confidential and impartial information, advice, advocacy and representation service to the citizens of Ballymena and the wider county of Antrim. In so doing, we value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. Our service aims are to provide the advice people need for the problems they face, and equally, to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives. Our Trustees believe that all our purposes satisfy elements of the public requirement. Purpose One THE DIRECT BENEFITS WHICH FLOW FROM THIS PURPOSE INCLUDE: • TRAINING OF VOLUNTEERS FROM THE AREA OF BENEFIT • EDUCATION OF PEOPLE FROM THE AREA OF BENEFIT AS TO THEIR RIGHTS IN RELATION TO THOSE AREAS OF NI LEGISLATION WHICH DIRECTLY AFFECTS THEM. • PEOPLE FROM THE AREA OF BENEFIT WILL NOT SUFFER THROUGH A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OR AN INABILITY TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES. THESE BENEFITS WILL BE EVIDENCED THROUGH: • THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS TRAINED EACH YEAR • FEEDBACK FROM CLIENTS WHO USE OUR SERVICES THIS PURPOSE DOES NOT GIVE RISE TO ANY HARM. THE BENEFICIARIES OF THIS PURPOSE ARE THOSE PEOPLE RESIDING IN NORTHERN IRELAND. A PRIVATE BENEFIT TO TRUSTEES MAY ARISE AS A RESULT OF ONGOING TRAINING IN GOOD GOVERNANCE, FINANCE, HR. THROUGH THIS TRAINING TRUSTEES GAIN SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WHICH ARE TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER SETTINGS. THESE BENEFITS ARE INCIDENTAL AND NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE BENEFIT IS PROVIDED TO OUR BENEFICIARIES. A PRIVATE BENEFIT TO INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS MAY ARISE AS A RESULT OF THEIR BASIC TRAINING. VOLUNTEERS GAIN SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WHICH ARE TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER SETTINGS. THESE BENEFITS ARE INCIDENTAL AND NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE BENEFIT IS PROVIDED TO OUR BENEFICIARIES. Purpose Two The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include:- • Claiming welfare benefits for those who have a physical, mental, learning and sensory disability, and those suffering from long-term illness. • Providing advocacy and tribunal representation to clients suffering from physical, mental, learning and sensory disability, and those suffering from long-term illness. THESE BENEFITS WILL BE EVIDENCED THROUGH: • The number of clients that we assist to claim Disability and Sickness Benefits • The number of clients we provide representation to at Social Security, Disability and Medical Appeals Tribunals, • The total income generated on an annual basis on behalf of our beneficiaries • Feedback by way of annual client satisfaction surveys, outcomes of our Social Policy work and external reports on the number of tribunals that we represented at, and the outcome of this work. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those people residing in Ballymena and the wider Co. Antrim area. Purpose Three The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include: - • Maximising the income of all our clients in need, whether they are in work or out of work. • Reducing the levels of stress and anxiety of those in the area of benefit. • Providing quality information, advice and advocacy to those on low incomes or living in a debt situation. THESE BENEFITS WILL BE EVIDENCED THROUGH: • The number of clients that we assist to claim Social Security Benefits, • The amount of income generated on an annual basis, • The total value of debt we have dealt with on an annual basis, feedback by way of annual client satisfaction surveys and outcomes of our Social Policy work. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those residing in Co. Antrim.

What your organisation does

Citizens Advice Community Initiatives is a free and impartial advice service available to the citizens of Mid and East Antrim Borough. Our purpose is to provide free and impartial advice to citizens via face to face appointments with fully trained advisers or via a dedicated telephone advice line. We also offered support and assistance to clients

with the completion of forms.
