Public benefits

Causeway Association of Urban Sports provides access to urban sports including skateboarding, bmx, in-line skating, scooters, parkour and street dance to people in the Causeway Area to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities and other sections of society disadvantaged through age, disability, unemployment or ethnic origin. The direct

benefits flowing from the purpose include an enhancement in the social welfare of participants through providing relief from their regular environment, improvements in health and wellbeing through physical activity and building confidence and self-esteem as well as providing access to accreditations in first aid, event management, coaching, child protection, risk assessment and other training as needed. The benefits can be demonstrated through formal and informal evaluation feedback from participants in our programmes, educators/educational authorities and the recognition of our organisation’s work by local authorities. We also take photographs and update social media and our website as to our progress. We do not charge any form of membership fees. While Urban Sports do not come without physical risks, any potential harms are outweighed by the benefits to participants and alleviated through our safety talks, for example, our skateboard etiquette programme and personal and public risk assessment. There are no private benefits to any individuals connected with the organisation as all work to date has been carried out on a voluntary basis however we do not rule out that we may have to pay salaries to staff or professional fees which is a necessary requirement in order to provide our facilities and therefore incidental to the carrying out of the purposes. While they may be a benefit of increasing employability options to our volunteers who access our training we believe this is a necessary requirement in order to provide our facilities and therefore incidental to the purposes of carrying out our purposes.

What your organisation does

We are an organisation which lobbies for facilities and programmes to support participation in Urban Sports in the Causeway Area. We are lobbying our Borough Council and other statutory agencies to provide facilities and to work with us to educate the general public about the positive benefits of urban sports and their impact on the creativity and

the health and well-being of participants. We organise events, carry out consultations, deliver education and training programmes and also undertake diversion programmes for young people.
