Public benefits

The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is to build confidence, improve musical knowledge and understanding enabling all to take a more active role in the community in which they live. It enables people of all ages to engage in musical and social activity, thereby learning new skills and affording them the opportunity to further develop

interaction within the community. The main beneficiaries of this purpose are the people living in the greater Newry area although the work of the band impacts throughout Northern Ireland.The benefits are evidenced by regular feedback from members and participants in the learning and tuition programmes. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. A private benefit may arise from tuition and learning programmes where members gain skills which are transferable to other settings, such as solo competitions. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to as many beneficiaries as possible.

What your organisation does

Altnaveigh Memorial Pipe Band promotes and interest in and provides tuition in highland piping and drumming, encouraging the develop of the Ulster Scots cultural traditions. It also organsies training and educational programmes for the benefit of the local community, such as child protection, food hygiene, fist aid, etc.

Charitable purposes

To promote interest in pipe and drum musical traditions within Ireland and overseas; preserve the existing repertoire of pipe an drum music; promote and develop all aspects of Ulster Scots cultural traditions, develop the genre through the production of new work and encourage its continued enjoyment and acceptance with the whole population of Northern Ireland; encourage persons of all ages and sexes to develop their instrumental skills and talents,; provide tuition in the instruments and in the relative skills and competencies, establish a community based initiative in co-operation with other relevant organisations to promote the activities of the Band and any constituent bodies or groupings in furtherance of the above objectives
