Public benefits

The benefits which flow from this purpose are: • Reduce isolation, enhancing independence and improving quality of life of people affected by cancer through regular coffee mornings, support meetings and events. • Reduce the number of deaths through awareness campaigns/stalls. • Cancer services such as counselling and complimentary therapy will be

available to individuals who are going through cancer treatment in local, comfortable and familiar settings. • Support and assistance such as bra fitting/social outings will be provided to those who have been affected by cancer. • Training, services and information sessions will be provided in community settings which will build capacity and knowledge in local communities. • Increase confidence to return to work/training. • Improved accessibility to cancer services i.e. Radiotherapy Unit through lobbying and campaigns. • Trained volunteers in the areas of breast, testicular and bowel cancer. The beneficiaries are those affected by cancer, which includes the cancer sufferer, family members, carers and the wider community in relation to cancer awareness. These benefits are and will be evidenced through feedback from participants using our services and attending various activities and events we deliver we will use our established monitoring and evaluation framework, DSD quarterly monitoring outcome based report, annual report, government and health statistics. We do not envisage that there is any harm stemming from our purpose as we have policies and procedures in place to provide the framework within which our organisation operates. These define what our organisation does and how it does it. Our key policies are: Equal Opportunities legislation, Health and Safety, Staff Support and Supervision, Child Protection and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Employment including policies on discipline, sickness etc. A private benefit to trustees may arise from ongoing training in good governance, finance, etc. Through this training trustees gain skills which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Volunteers may also gain new transferable skills in ‘Listening Ear’ and awareness training in breast, testicular and other forms of cancer. This again is incidental and necessary to facilitate our awareness events/stalls and to provide emotional support to those in need.
