Public benefits
Relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Seymour Hill and Conway area of Dunmurry and its environs… The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include reduced isolation and increased information for local residents. As an association we attend various meetings including the local housing
community network meeting. We share information with residents from these meetings, which otherwise they may be unaware of. This alerts residents to grants and schemes etc. Information is shared via the community newsletter and community noticeboard. Isolation is reduced via activities and events throughout the year. Associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education… The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include residents availing of the opportunity to develop their skills and experience through training courses. Training may vary from skills based training such as computer classes, to education and training in cultural awareness. Many residents have poor experiences of education and such training has helped provide positive experiences as well as building capacity and confidence. To provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include a more engaged, responsive community who have pride in their area. We attend various meetings and work with statutory agencies & elected representatives to raise and respond to issues within the estate. Issues are raised on behalf of residents and also as an Association. Practical benefits have come about as a result of such engagement. We are currently working together regarding a new social housing development in the area, and as an Association we ensure residents are kept informed regarding the development. We are also able to raise any community concerns. Throughout the year we hold various activities and events. These reduce isolation, enable friendships to develop and often provide opportunities to residents which otherwise would be unavailable, for example access to training. To establish or to secure the establishment of a Community Centre (hereinafter called "the Centre") and to maintain and manage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above objects. The direct benefits which flow from this include an accessible venue within the local community which is open to all. The community flat is open weekdays to provide a drop in service for residents. There is an opportunity to seek advice and support from the Association, and from statutory authorities through advice surgeries which are also held in the flat. None of the purpose listed give rise to any harm and the beneficiaries are those living within the area of benefit. A private benefit to trustees may arise through the trustee’s involvement in organising and delivering projects and activities, specifically improved skills and experiences. Another private benefit may be a trustee, acting in the capacity of key holder is required to open and close the community flat, and stays to take part in the activity. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to the beneficiaries.
