Public benefits

The church promotes the advancement of religion through the provision of regular worship and sacramental services. People who may want to become Orthodox or know more about the Orthodox faith have the opportunity for teaching. An enquirer was received as a catechumen, taught the faith and was baptised and chrismated over the last 12

months Members of the public have the opportunity to attend weekly services. In particular, migrants of the Orthodox faith worship with us and receive the sacraments using English as a common language. Greek and Romanian Christians worship with us regularly. Orthodox Christians who are not regular worshippers receive the sacraments and other religious rites. Recent examples are ◦Occasional attendance at the celebration of the Divine Liturgy (Eucharist) ◦Marriages ◦A funeral ◦Prayers for the departed ◦The blessing of a mother and child 40 days after childbirth Christian refugees from Syria have attended our services Other churches in Ireland have dialogue with us through our participation in the Irish Council of Churches The Church promotes the advancement of religion. Theological teaching is offered. The Church provides understanding of icons. The Church provides a cross-community centre. Ethnic members find the Church culturally helpful and a bridge to the local community.

What your organisation does

The Advancement of religion: the Church offers regular worship in terms of Sunday Liturgy and offices according to the Christian Year. Theological teaching is offered to those who desire to join. Provide understanding of icons: many of which are used in worship. The Church's icons may be viewed and explained in arrangement. Cross-community

centre: Many who visit the Church are from eastern and Southern Europe. The Irish members are from both Roman Catholic and Protestant backgrounds. When required the Church is prepared to offer financial help within its means. It does not restrict this offer to its own members.

Charitable purposes

The church is established to (a) promote the Orthodox Christian faith according to the rites and traditions of the one holy Catholic Orthodox and Apostolic Church as expressed in the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Tradition, the teachings of the seven Ecumenical Councils and the Holy fathers and as preserved and taught by the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch. (b) benefit the public in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland and elsewhere by the relief of poverty, sickness and distress. Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the Trustees shall in particular:- (c) seek to maintain or to assist in maintaining a Church or Churches where canonical Orthodox liturgical worship is celebrated in accordance with canon law and the statutes of the Patriarchate of Antioch (d) to promote the teaching of the Orthodox Christian faith through sermons, lectures and discussion groups through catechism classes and through theological or other schools or conferences; (e) to receive into the Orthodox Christian faith all those who freely decide and sincerely desire to adopt the Orthodox Christian faith and to live in accordance with its spiritual and moral teaching; (f) to promote the practice of the Orthodox Christian faith through the organisation of youth groups, study groups, seminars and other spiritual cultural and educational activities.
