Grants. The benefits which flow from this purpose is the promotion of enjoyment of music and better understanding and appreciation and general advancement of the art and science of music, and in particular orchestral music for the benefit of schoolchildren and young people who are studying or have studied music at schools in the North East Region of the Education Authority through exposure to concerts and recitals and by participating in school music groups. These benefits are demonstrated by feedback from head teachers of schools, music teachers, parents and children and young people who have been helped by the Friends and also members of the general public who attend the concerts and recitals. No harm arises from these activities. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that professional musicians may be employed to play at a concert or recital thereby gaining public exposure but this is to increase the standard of music and musicianship on display and is incidental to the main benefit and is outweighed by the public benefit. The benefits which flow from this purpose is improved specialist music teaching in schools in the North East Region of the Education Authority, more children may study instruments in North East Region schools and improved levels of instrumental proficiency for those studying music. The benefits are demonstrated by feedback from Head teachers, music teachers, music service staff, children and young people who participate in the music groups or master classes. No harm arises from any of these activities. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that professional musicians may be employed to play or assist with teaching a music group or master class but this is to improve specialist music teaching and increase the standard of instrumental proficiency amongst the children and young people and is incidental to the main benefit and is outweighed by the public benefit.
