Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the purpose include reduced levels of stress and anxiety arising from financial concerns because small grants are made 1 directly to people living with cancer 2 to organisations providing services that enhance the health and well being of cancer patients in the target area. Formal and informal evidence

confirms that people are financially worse off as a result of a cancer diagnosis. This is due to reduced household incomes and increased expenses including travel for medical appointments and home heating costs. The organisation makes payments directly to cancer patients. The beneficiary chooses how to spend the grant. These payments are made to reduce anxiety arising from financial issues so that the person can focus on their health and recovery. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and testimony of beneficiaries and their families. In providing direct financial support to cancer patients, this purpose does not lead to harm. The organisation may on occasion pay directly for alternative health treatments and/or therapies and/or training to promote the well being of cancer patients in the target area. The direct benefits flowing from funding such services include enhanced well being and health outcomes and reduced levels of stress and suffering. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and testimonials from beneficiaries. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The organisation may make financial contributions to other organisations providing care and support to cancer patients from the target area. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved health care and support and reduced levels of distress and anxiety for cancer patients and their families and carers. The charity's benefits are provided to those diagnosed with cancer registered with Carrickmore Health Centre and / or living in the parish of Termonmaguirc. The purpose does not lead to harm. On occasion the organisation may pay a therapist and / or trainer directly for the provision of therapies to a cancer patient from the target area in line with it's purpose 'to relieve the suffering and distress of people who are suffering from cancer'. In this case the therapist/trainer receives additional income and may subsequently claim experience of working with cancer patients. This in turn may increase his/her employability. The private benefit to a therapist / trainer accrues from the delivery of therapies and / or training to cancer patients. The private benefit is incidental and necessary to alleviate the suffering and distress of people living with cancer and to promote their well being. There is no private benefit to a trustee. However should a trustee or relative of a trustee be diagnosed with cancer and reside in the target area they would be entitled to receive the same level of financial support as other cancer patients as defined by the charity's purpose. To avoid any conflict of interest the trustee would be required to absent themselves from any meeting concerning the award of support. The above is incidental and required to carry out the purposes of the Charity.

What your organisation does

Termonmaguirc Cancer Patients Comfort Fund receives charitable donations and distributes that money to cancer patients registered with Carrickmore Health Centre and / or living in the parish of Termonmaguirc. The beneficiary can decide how the money is spent. Infrequently the organisation may pay for alternative therapies on behalf of a cancer

patient, make a financial contribution towards the purchase of equipment to support the care of cancer patients, or make a financial contribution to other organisations providing care and support to cancer patients from the target area. All work is carried out on a voluntary basis at present.
