Public benefits

Public Benefit: One of the 12 charitable purposes in the Charities Act (NI) 2008 is the advancement of religion for the public benefit. Case Law sets out religion to be of public benefit, as it encourages the moral improvement in society. The Purpose of the Walter Watson Charitable Trust is: Advancement of Christian Religion. The direct benefits of

this purpose, flows to the general public, through local & international Christian Missionary organisations & Christian Media organisations. The public benefit that flows from our purpose is Christ-centered Bible based Education, through discipleship proclaiming the Gospel. The charity reaches the general public all over the world, through its charity funding, to third party missionary organisations i.e. Gideon’s, Christian Institute, Joy Foundation, Haggai Institute, Ministry For Europe Trust, NI Bible Society, Operation Mobilisation, Kairos Centre, Summer Madness, Lord’s Work Trust, UCB, Revival Movement, Youth For Christ. We also support Friends in Action who demonstrate God's Love & provision in practical ways, by providing clean water in developing countries. Geographical area of public benefit ranges from global population to specific villages, in the various regions of for example, Bangladesh, Slovakia, Romania, Ireland, Egypt, Hungary, Russia. All ages are targeted and enjoy the benefit from learning the truth of God’s word. Evidence of benefit’s are demonstrated by feedback & regular evaluations, from the international missionary organisations & Christian media organisations that are supported financially. We seek to ensure the financial resources are making a difference by asking for regular feedback from our participants across the various countries. This global partnering with charities enables the advancement of the Christian religion more efficiently & effectively. Our Annual report also demonstrates benefits to the general public, and income distributed to advance the Christian religion. The benefits cannot be physically measured, but can be demonstrated through a greater understanding of the Christian religion, and thus a sense of hope in life, improved behaviour and contribution to the mental health and wellbeing to those beneficiaries, who we reach with God’s word. There is no harm flowing from the purpose of our charity. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public and various partner charities that are supported through grants, to further advance the Christian religion i.e. the purpose of our charity. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that those who volunteer for the charity may feel an improved sense of wellbeing and soul fulfilling experience. The Trustees have no private benefit from the charities assets.
