Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from our purpose is that the elderly, disabled, those with learning disabilities and the mentally ill feel better supported by providing support for relatives or friends who care for them These benefits are evidenced through the increasing numbers of carers of all ages that use our service and the positive feedback

that we receive from them in our regular review processes. They are further evidenced by regular internal and external qualitative assessment, regular collation of quantitative data on our activities and the production of various information dvds and photographs highlighting our work. All activity is highlighted in our Annual Report and accounts. Newry & Mourne Carers provides (i) regular opportunities for carers to meet (ii) promotes education and training to carers, and gathers and disseminates information which may assist carers in their work. The benefit to carers is that their health and wellbeing is improved and they are better able to carry out their caring duties Newry & Mourne Carers provides support to carers and relief from isolation particularly in rural areas. It actively lobbies on behalf of carers and organises, sponsors and conducts (either alone or with others) exhibitions, conferences and meetings to inform and advise carers on key issues which might affect their roles as carers. The benefit to carers is that their health and wellbeing is improved and they are better able to carry out their caring duties Newry & Mourne Carers organises fundraising where appropriate to finance its charitable activities, it provides premises and equipment for the sole use of family carers and it publishes and distributes materials relating to the work of the charity specifically and to carers generally. This enables us to be fully resourced to carry out our charitable activities to ensure that carers health and wellbeing is improved and they are better able to carry out their caring duties There is no harm or potential harm as a result of any of the above activities being carried out the purpose being carried out and no one gains a private benefit as a result of these activities.

What your organisation does

Newry & Mourne Carers operates for the benefit of unpaid family carers supporting them with a listening ear, helping them to access grants, providing them with benefits advice and providing respite breaks and counselling. We are about supporting carers to enjoy as meaningful a life as possible outside of their caring role. Our focus is on carers

and how they are impacted by their caring situation and many carers see our organisation as a lifeline. We measure our success by the positive changes we see in our carers lives and we measure that achievement through feedback surveys and measurement tools such as outcome stars. Carers shape our service delivery and are at the heart of everything we do. Provide an environment where the Carers role and the value of that role is recognised and acknowledged and where Carers are able to meet with other family Carers Identify Carers in need of support within communities Raise awareness amongst professionals, organisations, agencies and promote active inter-agency work with Carers and their families Ensure statutory agencies are aware of and active in respect of their responsibilities to Carers Advocate and represent the needs of Carers to the public, organisations who have responsibilities to provide support for Carers and those who can influence policy in this area Identify, co-ordinate, support and develop existing services for Carers within communities Assist Carers to identify and articulate their needs and to access services and supportive facilities within their own communities Provide information and advice to Carers and their families Involve Carers and their families in the design, delivery and review of the services our projects provide Consult with Carers to promote self-assessment of their own needs and identify a relevant service plan to assist meet those needs Develop self-help support groups Provide centre based and outreach activities include respite and recreational opportunities for Carers
