Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased confidence through developing singing skills and taking part in performances; reduction in social isolation and opportunities to develop friendship and support through shared musical activities with others; improved sense of well being and mood; physical benefits including improving

our aerobic capacity and decrease in muscle tension; provides a safe environment to try new skills and creating a sense of shared community by bringing people together. There is also benefit to the wider public of being able to attend concerts/events and enjoy or appreciate the arts or music specifically. We are open to all women and part of the purpose of the group is therefore to foster understanding and acceptance of women from a range of different social and religious (or none) backgrounds. Through the choice of some of our music, we increase empathy for other cultures These benefits are demonstrated through retention of regular participants; new members joining the group; informal feedback from audience members There is no harm flowing from the purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are the participants of the singing group and audiences for whom the group sings There are no private benefits flowing from the purposes.

What your organisation does

The group meets weekly for women to sing together. We have a collection of old & new songs - often traditional songs tied to the history of Belfast & its industries but many international tunes embedded in cultures of women's collective singing.

Charitable purposes

The objects of the Association shall be:- (a) To advance public education and stimulate and educate interest in singing, music and the arts generally, particularly but not exclusively by: (i) the presentation of performances and cultural events; (ii) the provision of training, instruction and practice in the performance of artistic works; (iii) the making of recordings of artistic works in all forms of media. (b) To promote the equality and diverse needs of women living in the area of benefit by offering arts experiences in a non-threatening environment which assist in developing their education, self-confidence, personal development and empowerment and encourage collaboration and participation. (c) In the interests of social welfare, to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation with the object of improving the condition of life for women living in the area of benefit.
