Public benefits

Enkalon Foundation was established in 1985 following the closure of British Enkalon in Antrim to support and assist Ex-Employees. This was fulfilled through supporting projects and community groups as well as individual ex-employees within the Antrim area. The purpose of the Foundation was then extended to support projects and community groups

which were not directly related to the factory and were also outside of the Antrim area. The benefit of the funding is that it assists groups with running and project costs to enable them to deliver their objectives and meet the varied needs within their community both urban and rural throughout Northern Ireland. The benefits for groups receiving awards are demonstrated through their project reports to the Trustees outlining how the funds were used to meet the core objectives of their organisation. Support for individuals continues to only be available to ex-employees and their immediate family. It is offered in the form of provision of healthcare equipment where in the opinion of the Trustees they are in a state of financial need. The private benefit from this aspect of the Foundations work is for the company who has the contract to supply all the healthcare equipment purchased, Disability Needs. The company was selected due to their experience and understanding of the needs of individuals with health and mobility issues. This equates to approximately 10% of the awards given out annually. The work of Enkalon Foundation does not to the knowledge of the Trustees cause any harm to awardees or general public.
