Public benefits

Cookstown North Community Group – Public benefit Statement There are 3 main purposes for our organisation which satisfy the elements of the public benefit requirement: 1st Purpose: Relieve Poverty, Sickness and the Aged – The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include opportunities to participate in affordable programmes and activities

which help to tackle social isolation and exclusion which helps improve the mental health of people in our community. We also run a number of programmes which benefit the physical health of our community, in particular those aimed at our senior citizens. We aim to provide free dinner events for seniors in the area twice yearly with local funding. 2nd Purpose: To advance education – The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the opportunity for the people in our community to take part in a wide range of different events and schemes including; sporting, community development, multi-generational learning (young learning from older persons) and gardening etc. We provide a range of events for young and old regarding history e.g. learning about Ulster Scots society and the WW1 and WW2 events, where people feel safe and secure, and it gives them the opportunity to take part in these events and try something new which they would not otherwise have the opportunity or finances/ resources to do. 3rd Purpose: To provide facilities in the interest of public welfare – The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include; the delivery of a wide range of projects and activities within our community which benefit all those who participate and the provision of a base for other services to be provided which are of direct benefit to our community, e.g. sports days, cultural events and safety seminars. The provision of these programmes and services helps to build the capacity and cohesion of our community, it raises the confidence and self-esteem of those who are involved and it helps to tackle issues such as social isolation and loneliness. These benefits are all demonstrated through verbal feedback and records of attendance through our attendance records and where people have not been able to attend we have had visits arranged to try and get them out to the next event. The benefits are also demonstrated through feedback from external groups/ trainers/ agencies etc who come in to deliver some of these programmes. The direct beneficiaries of our organisation are those living in the North End of Cookstown area. Those who attend our programmes and activities directly benefit from this engagement. The wider community also benefit as our youth events are used as an outreach to address specific issues. Our group hold regular inter-agency meetings where issues affecting the local community can be addressed by the relevant agency e.g. Environmental Issues, Housing Issues, Issues with roads/ footpaths, local Policing issues. This indirectly benefits the wider community as we are representing the whole area and listen to the wider needs. The wider community also benefit through the outcome of the projects we run such as estate inspections and clean ups, planting etc. This allows the profile of our area to be raised which increases people’s pride in our area. Cookstown North Community Group promotes equality of opportunity without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion. There is no harm relating to any of these benefits. There is no private benefit.
