What your organisation does

The core aims of Second Line (NI) are to create an authentic experience within the local communities using jazz as a catalyst to explore new forms of non-contentious parading, inclusive celebration, and promote a ‘shared’ experience between our local ethnic minorities, inter faith groups, organisations for disabled persons and the wider public

within Northern Ireland. We strive to increase cultural awareness by working closely with the city’s diverse cultural population through public events, workshops and rehearsals that promote intercultural exchanges rather than multicultural demonstrations. We hope to continue nurturing the ‘safe’ emotional and physical space jazz has created in the Derry/Londonderry area by generating continuous outlets for local communities to engage in further cross-cultural dialogue. Our long term goal is to apply the work we’ve done within the Derry/Londonderry area to many areas across Northern Ireland as a way of creatively connecting people at the grass roots level.
