Public benefits
All members of the public are encouraged to access services and support from Solas, regardless as to whether they have a diagnosed mental health problem (intervention) or if they need help to maintain or develop positive emotional wellbeing (prevention). a) People in receipt of education, training information and advice will experience the
following public benefit: - Improved mental health - Improved emotional wellbeing - Better equipped to cope with difficulties - Feelings of being better supported in difficult times - Training and education for the local community will help reduce the stigma associated with mental ill health, reducing the challenges people with mental health difficulties face and encourage people to be open and honest b) People in receipt of counselling & therapies or being signposted to other relevant professional support agencies will experience the following public benefit: - Reduced symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety or distress - Learn skills and techniques to deal with the symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety or stress - Members of the public will be signposted to complementary or more appropriate support services to further aid their recovery from mental ill health (e.g addiction services) c) By maintaining a centre which acts as a hub for organisations which fit in with Solas' ethos, members of the local community will have access to a wider range of support services to help improve their emotional health & wellbeing; and by encouraging cross referrals helps more members of the public get access to the support they need Demonstrating the benefit We have a new robust evaluation and monitoring system which allows us to gather information on the following key areas - a. pre and post evaluation questionnaire with two main sections: firstly a generic section gathering the same information about the general health and wellbeing of our members, which will be used the assess the percentage of all members who experienced improved health and wellbeing as a result of attending our programme; secondly a programme specific section to assess if the aims of the project have been achieved, which will be used to measure the impact of the specific programme b. attendance sheet for all programmes, which will be used to monitor attendance at each programme, providing an indication of the quality of our programmes. Our programmes have the specific aim of improving the emotional health and wellbeing of our members, therefore there is no harm for these individuals. If it deemed that their mental health is deteriorating, the members will be signposted to their GP for clinical assessment or in a crisis situation, to a specialist service such as Lifeline or the local accident and emergency department. Sessional workers who deliver programmes of support will receive private benefit from remuneration of work they carry out. These sessional workers are key to being able to deliver the core services available to the public. This private benefit is necessary to achieve the purpose and is therefore incidental.
