Public benefits
The direct benefit that flows from this purpose includes provision of advice and guidance which can be accessed by older people including older people with disabilities in Castlederg and its environs who by reason of social or economic circumstances have need of such facilities. Users are also provided with a befriending service which offers
support to them in returning forms to statutory agencies and makes appropriate referrals to the Citizens Advice outreach service, ensuring that they receive benefits and assistance they are entitled to and in so doing help relieve financial concerns and poverty. Users are also facilitated in accessing savings schemes and fuel stamps enabling budgeting and money management to reduce dependence on crisis lending and relieve the burden of interest charges incurred by poor cashflow management. Users also benefit from the safe provision of community education, creative education (crafts), vocational training and life-long learning. Users are also supported in the development of individual capabilities, competences, skills and understanding which assist them in having a more independent life and ensure full integration into society. In addition users benefit from the facilitation of access to health promotion, prevention and early intervention services. Users are also provided with opportunity for social interaction through annual outings which means that users can access leisure and recreational activities, visit other areas and enjoy cultural and leisure activities which would be otherwise inaccessible without an organised, managed and supported outing. Users are also provided with opportunity for social interaction through an annual Christmas Dinner and concert in Castlederg which enables them to engage with peers, enjoy musical and cultural activities otherwise inaccessible. Our interventions have a positive impact on the physical, mental and emotional outcomes for beneficiaries enabling them to live a fulfilled, healthy and positive lifestyle which can assist them in remaining living independently at home. We also provide volunteering opportunities and associated training which enables volunteers to play a positive role in supporting the various strands of work that we do. Volunteers can develop practical, caring and social skills which can contribute to their own personal and professional development. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from members, local health and social care professionals and befrienders. We also monitor the number of forms completed, referrals to CAB, fuel stamps/savings schemes accessed as well as maintaining roll books for attendance at programmes, events and activities.
