Public benefits

The benefit which flows from this purpose is the education of young and old from all parts of the community in the dramatic arts of acting, singing, and dancing. Our members gain experience and confidence in performance skills in a wide range of drama related events within the local population. Our goal is to provide high quality drama events and

productions for the enjoyment of the general public at an affordable cost. We aim to develop our members’ skills and talents in a safe, comfortable and well structured environment. We take feedback from our members and the wider public through surveys and working groups. We are not aware of any harm flowing from this purpose. Key beneficiaries are the membership of the group, who learn from working with older and more experienced members and the enhancement of their confidence and self-esteem through their involvement. The general public also benefit through the opportunity to attend high quality drama events/plays/musicals at a reasonable cost. The benefits of exposure to the arts are well recognised. There is some private benefit to certain individuals outside the membership. These individuals are necessary to bring professional skills to the organisation such as production skills and theatre technical skills. There may be some private benefit flowing to the members by way of using their skills/training in other settings i.e. child protection training. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our membership. The benefit which flows to the wider public includes the enjoyment of high quality music and drama pieces and street theatre. The benefits include the increased awareness, improved knowledge and appreciation of performing arts within the entire province. We strive to be cross-community and entertain audience of all age ranges and social backgrounds. This is evidenced by the continuing support of our returning audiences over many years. The educational aspect is evidenced by the increasingly high standards set by our members and the high attendance rates of school groups. We are not aware of any harm stemming from this purpose. A private benefit may arise as trustees gain training in skills that may be transferable to other settings. These are incidental and necessary to ensure a high standard for our beneficiaries. The encouragement of the interest in the arts among our young people of the Mid Ulster region and further afield provides additional direct benefits to the youth membership (aged 6-25), all of whom expand participation in music, dance and drama. This culminates in high quality theatre productions. We provide an opportunity for young people in the area to develop skills whilst building personal skills. These benefits are evidenced by the high numbers attending weekly classes, auditions and street theatre events. There are some risks flowing from these activities but these are managed by the group management and professional venue staff. These benefits outweigh any harm. There is no private benefit within the membership.
