Public benefits

CORCRAIN FLUTE BAND PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT PURPOSE: The advancement of education and of the arts and culture – to enhance and encourage the education of its members in musical arts, particularly the art of playing all aspects of flute music and culture. BENEFICIARIES: Persons living in N.Ireland who can become members and be part of the band.

General public in N.I and people in other countries who can benefit from appreciation of the music BENEFIT: Members are educated to read music and how to play the musical instruments. Their musical expertise are developed with the opportunity to learn a wide range of music across various genres from classical to traditional tunes. They may also learn the skill of musical arrangements, for example, transcribing pieces of music set for a particular ensemble to an arrangement suitable for flutes and percussion bands. There is a strong tradition and culture of flute playing in N.I. We are promoting the culture of playing classical flute. We provide both the members and general public with the opportunity to appreciate a variety of musical styles. The general public benefits from being able to enjoy the band perform, either in its entirety, or as smaller units/ensembles. DEMONSTRATING THE BENEFIT: Members are able to play pieces of music together with others. Some will have started from not being able to read music or play and develop skills for both. Rehearsal sessions with other members enables them to develop and become players in their own right. VARIOUS PUBLIC PERFORMANCES: In recent years CFB have performed for the general public at town fairs, nursing homes, hospitals, shopping centres, schools, parades. Venues include Stormont, Craigavon Civic Centre, London and House of Lords, Bergen Norway, Jersey, Spalding. PRIVATE BENEFIT: The only private benefit emanates from the tuition our members receive in playing the instruments, as a necessity to equip them to be part of the band. Expertise is freely imparted from accomplished players to the others and in addition outside tuition is occasionally funded. Each member is supplied with instrument(s), uniforms (concert and marching) and other accoutrements for their use during their membership. There is no harm or detriment caused by our activities. In recent times some flute bands have been associated with contentious parades. Our band is a “concert” flute band, and whilst we participate in traditional cultural parades, we are not linked in any capacity to any political parades. Neither do we play any music that can be construed as offensive.

What your organisation does

CFB hold weekly rehearsals in the Band Hall, Richhill each Monday night from 7.45pm to 9.45pm. Our Musical Director will have selected a variable programme of music what will be rehearsed by the members present. In the event that we have trainee players a learners' class would be held prior to the main rehearsal under an appointed

tutor. Contesting work may require additional rehearsals on an as required basis. The musical programme is varied according to our schedule of forthcoming concerts, competitions, and parades. Small ensembles may be formed from within the membership to carry out engagements when the whole band is not required. During the marching season (5 parades) attention is given to enhance our deportment so that the performances are commensurate with our status.
