This statement of benefits for Broughshane Improvement Committee seeks to follow the toolkit guidance and template. Broughshane Improvement Committee has one object as stated in its Constitution:- Purpose (object): The organisation is established to promote the benefit of the general public in Broughshane and its environs in Co Antrim

(hereinafter called “the area of benefit”) by the provision of civic amenities for the benefit of the public in an effort to conserve and improve the natural environment and to provide recreational facilities in the area of benefit in an effort to promote rural regeneration for the benefit of the public. What benefit flows from this purpose? The benefits flowing from this purpose include:- (i) A cleaner environment in Broughshane, achieved by the provision of litter and waste receptacles and a street cleaning service. (ii) A welcoming and attractive village, achieved by the provision of floral displays throughout the year and street seating. (iii) A cohesive and happy community, achieved by the involvement of volunteer individuals and organisations in the delivery of activities. Can you demonstrate this? These benefits are demonstrated through ‘Best Kept Village’ awards achieved at local, national and international level over many years, through high occupancy of local retail units and through the demand for housing in Broughshane. They are also demonstrated by survey work and feedback from residents. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? There is no risk of harm from this purpose. Who is the benefit for? The charity’s beneficiaries are people living in and visiting Broughshane and its environs. Is there any private benefit? Is it incidental or necessary? It may be the case that local shops benefit from spend by visitors attracted to Broughshane by the charity’s activities. This benefit is incidental.

What your organisation does

The organisation looks after the environmental community developments in the Broughshane and Slemish electoral wards in Mid & East Antrim Council area. The organisation is established to promote the benefit of the general public in Broughshane and its environs in Co. Antrim by the provision of civic amenities for the benefit of the public in an

effort to conserve and improve the natural environment and to provide recreational facilities in the area of benefit in an effort to promote rural regeneration for the benefit of the public.

The organisation is established to promote the advancement of citizenship and community development for the public benefit in Broughshane and the surrounding area by any charitable means including the following: Conserving and improving the natural environment, providing civic amenities for the benefit of the public, maintaining and tidying all public accessible areas around the village, hosting visiting groups to the village and promoting the village as a visitor destination
