Public benefits

The Building Change Trust meets the public benefit requirement in the following ways: 1. Through the advancement of citizenship or community development by supporting the community and voluntary sector in Northern Ireland through the development, delivery of, and learning from a range or programmes including commissioned work, awards programmes

and other interventions enabling charities to achieve more and better collaboration, increased sustainability and to be a learning and influential sector which identifies, shares and acts on lessons of others’ actions. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include greater efficiency and effectiveness of Charities and the effective use of charitable resources in Northern Ireland which lead to greater capacity and improved skills of those in socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. The benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of the services of the Trust, feedback from beneficiaries and widespread sharing of the results of the Trust's activity and work with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and their key stakeholders. Benefits are also demonstrated in practice through the participation of individuals and groups in the activities and programmes organised by the Trust. This purpose does not lead to harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those Charities and other voluntary , community and social enterprise organisations in Northern Ireland who avail of the resources and services provided by the Trust and in turn the wider society in Northern Ireland and in particular those in socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland who are directly engaged with the Trust or indirectly through organisations that the Trust support. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. 2. Through the advancement of education by supporting the community and voluntary sector in Northern Ireland through the development, delivery of, and learning from a range or programmes including commissioned work, awards programmes and other interventions enabling charities to achieve more and better collaboration, increased sustainability and to be a learning and influential sector which identifies, shares and acts on lessons of others’ actions. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include better informed staff and volunteers of those Charities and other voluntary , community and social enterprise organisations who avail of the resources and services provided by the Trust and take the opportunity to learn and collaborate, which leads to increased sustainability enabling the sector to be a learning and influential sector through work across a number of dynamic thematic areas including at present Collaboration, Social Finance, Inspiring Impact, Social Innovation and Creative Space for Civic Thinking The benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of the services of the Trust, feedback from beneficiaries and widespread sharing of the results of the Trust's activity and work with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and their key stakeholders. Benefits are also demonstrated in practice through the participation of individuals and groups in the activities and programmes organised by the Trust. This purpose does not lead to harm. The Trust supports the community, voluntary and social enterprise sector in Northern Ireland through the development, delivery of, and learning from a range or programmes including commissioned work, awards programmes and other interventions. The Trust supports the community and voluntary sector to achieve more and better collaboration, increased

sustainability and to be a learning and influential sector which identifies, shares and acts on lessons of others’ actions. This work will be carried out across five overarching thematic areas: Collaboration, Social Finance, Social Innovation, Inspiring Impact and Creating Space for Civic Thinking with Leadership being a theme that cuts through all of these areas.

Charitable purposes

The Objects of the Trust are to make awards for charitable purposes for: (a) the development, for the public benefit, of the capacity and skills of the members of socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society; (b) the promotion, for the public benefit, of the Voluntary Sector, the efficiency and effectiveness of Charities and the effective use of charitable resources in Northern Ireland; (c) the advancement, for the public benefit, of citizenship and community development in Northern Ireland; and thereby increase opportunities for volunteering, enhance the identification and support of best practice and good governance in the Voluntary Sector and the development of the skills of persons working in the Voluntary Sector and enable organisations in the Voluntary Sector to work effectively together for the benefit of the community.
