Public benefits
The public benefits are that older people in the Comber and District catchment area are offered the opportunity to continue to learn, share their knowledge and skills and make new friends in a convivial and stimulating environment. This reduces potential social isolation contributing to members staying healthier - both physically and mentally - for
longer; and builds on and develops a sense of local community. These benefits are demonstrated by the numbers attending monthly meetings and group activities as well as feedback - both formal and informal

Comber and District is a self help organisation which encourages its members to share their learning, skills and experience, through various interest groups, to help enhance the learning experience of their peers. Members run the organisation and lead and contribute to the various groups. Although we are a relatively young U3A the activities which
we offer through our interest groups range from bridge, singing, walking, gardening, cookery, literature, languages and technology. We also arrange walking holidays and trips to local events and cultural venues. We have sought opportunities to engage with the local community - recent examples include the photography group working with students at Nendrum College to develop powerpoint presentations and the gardening group replanting a large raised bed in the town centre.
