Public benefits
Purpose The City Chapter is established for the promotion of the arts and the advancement of education for the benefit of the public within the City of Armagh area. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is: • increased opportunities to explore culture and identity; • increased education and skills
for participants; • reduction in social isolation; • improved levels of self-confidence and self-esteem; • improved community life through involvement in enriching arts events Can you demonstrate this? The benefit is demonstrated through: • an annual programme of events to promote the spoken and written word; • the promotion of annual events such as National Poetry Day and World Book Day when events held by the City Chapter enable people to celebrate these events locally; • the collaboration with all four libraries in Armagh through their membership of the City Chapter and their joint efforts to promote the spoken and written word; • the provision of events which are free of charge and in local people’s home area; • the positive comments from attendees at school and adult events. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? No harm flows from the purpose of the City Chapter. Who is the benefit for? The City Chapter’s principal beneficiary is the general public, particularly the people of the City of Armagh.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
The City Chapter exists to promote the spoken and written word and over the years we have grown, both in ability and experience, to deliver activities relevant to this promotion. The City Chapter has provided similar events in the local area to ensure that local people may celebrate annual events such as World Book Day and National Poetry Day in
their home area, rather than having to travel elsewhere. These events will be advertised through existing media contacts and the use of the City Chapter’s database and website. Where appropriate, promotional methods from the John Hewitt Society will be exploited.
