What your organisation does

The creation of North Belfast Interface Network has been a response to intra communal violence and the threat to the physical and social structures of community life posed by ongoing conflict. North Belfast Interface Network (NBIN) is essentially a community resource that has the specific aim of managing positive change in North Belfast,

particularly at interface areas. NBIN achieve this through consultation, local representation, work with community representatives across sectarian divides and interagency work. As a result of this engagement process we plan activities that enable local people to address issues that have that have a negative impact on community relations. NBIN develop initiatives that seek to transform the nature of conflict and act as a catalyst for the development of community collaborations that have the potential to bring about positive social and physical change in the area. NBIN aims to minimise the potential for violent conflict and support positive intervention within North Belfast by: Maintaining a practical intervention /communication network Monitoring and assessing the number of interface incidences resulting in conflict and their cause Developing the NBIN capacity to deliver intervention / diversionary work targeting young people NBIN build and maintain positive working relationships within and between communities by Seeking, recruiting and supporting advocates for positive change Developing and enhancing cross community partnership and collaborative areas of work Supporting the development of improved intra-community relations NBIN seek to create positive physical transformation of interface communities in North Belfast. Seeking the transformation/ removal of interface barriers in North Belfast Supporting the development of shared space regeneration initiatives

Charitable purposes

The objects of the Company shall be:- A. To promote good community relations, religious and racial harmony, tolerance of differing political opinions and equality of opportunity in North Belfast and its environs (the “area of benefit”) by: (i) raising public awareness of different customs, cultures, traditions and national identities and of their historical roots; (ii) advancing the education of the public in equality and diversity; (iii) raising awareness of all aspects of discrimination in society; (iv) promoting better understanding of, and respect for, different cultures, religions, races and identities; (v) working towards the elimination of all forms of discrimination, including discrimination on the grounds of culture, ethnic identity, race, religion or political opinion, and promoting social inclusion; (vi) promoting for the public benefit, the provision of services directed towards mediation, conciliation or reconciliation between persons, organisations or groups involved in or likely to become involved in dispute or conflict both generally and in any situation where that dispute or conflict results from or may lead to acts of violence, nuisance, vandalism, abuse, unlawful activity or breakdown of public order; (vii) advancing for the public benefit the education of the public in the purposes and methods of such mediation, conciliation or reconciliation and the understanding of the nature and causes of any such disputes or conflicts and of all means of managing them for the purposes of peaceful resolution in the interests of good citizenship, and to provide education and training to those who will provide the mediation; (viii) promoting co-operation between community and voluntary organisations and groups to achieve these objects. B. To advance community development and in particular to develop the capacity and skills of the inhabitants of the area of benefit, an area of social and economic disadvantage, in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. C. To promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.
