... [more] [less]What your organisation does
We receive the charitable donations taken up at meetings, installation dinners and other functions organised by the units attached to this committee. We recover the gift aid from HMRC on the monies that satisfy the gift aid criteria. When making donations brethren have a choise to nominate the charity to which their donations should go. Many do
this, but many do not state any preference. Allocated monies are passed to the noninated charities. The committee decides on how the unallocated monies should be distributed, normally on a percentage basis related to the functions and annuitants supported. We organise each year a church service and carol service, where collections are taken up. A donation is given to the host church and the remanider goes to masonic charities. We invite guest speakers to advise us of changes in relevant legislation. We appraise lodge stewards of charities and almoners on changes that take place, from time to time, in the supporting documentation which the various charities require applicants to complete. We advise on how to conduct home visits, to identify needs and the best type of support to suggest.
