Public benefits
The direct benefits would be the education of the community of Drumbanagher in the art of the marching band accordion and drum, and the provision of a continuing platform for them to perform on these instruments and to advance their knowledge and skills. These benefits are evidenced through the numbers of people remaining and becoming members of
the charity and through feedback from participants and members of the public who make use of our services. The purpose does not lead to harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the community of Drumbanagher and surrounding town lands. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferrable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
The band has a great deal to offer society and in particular the young people in our local community. It sometimes provides young people with their only other interest, apart from school, especially in rural areas. It offers a safe and inexpensive environment for people to learn how to play a musical instrument as well as promote – health and
fitness, raising self-esteem, leadership skills, working as a team, responsibility and pride in achievement. The band also provides opportunities for members to receive training in Public First Aid, Marshalling Skills, Child Protection, Anti-sectarianism, Anti-racism, Event Management, Risk Assessment, Good relations and Drug and Alcohol awareness Level 1. The musical abilities gained by these young people coupled with the discipline needed to be in a band are skills that can’t be underestimated and is in stark contrast to the young people standing on street corners with no interests generally making a nuisance of themselves. It provides a recognisable focus for family involvement and community recognition. It also creates a greater understanding of Ulster Scots Heritage and helps to build the capacity and confidence of members making them better citizens more actively engaging in civic life. The benefits gained are also transferable to other aspects of their lives improving their job prospects for example.
