Public benefits
Crosscollyer Street Evangelical Presbyterian Church benefits its members, the local community and the general public by making known the Christian gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through our purpose of the advancement of religion. Our members, adherents and the general public benefit from the opportunity for public worship, the pastoral care
provided, and the mutual opportunities for fellowship and social interaction. The declaration of God’s word on a regular basis enables spiritual, moral and intellectual development for our congregation and for anyone else who wishes to benefit from what the church offers. The promotion of Christian values and service by members of our congregation brings benefit to individuals and society as a whole. Our regular public worship services are open to all, and are advertised on our denominational website and our public congregational noticeboard. The benefits of our organisation are evidenced through informal and ad-hoc feedback from our members, their families, parents of the young people who attend our youth meetings, and the wider public. Our Mother and Toddlers group provides an opportunity for mothers to relax together, and share experiences and knowledge. Their children learn to play together in a stimulating environment and develop mental and physical skills. Our youth activities provide young people with good principles for successful living and keep them away from danger at the interfaces. People we help to combat addiction enjoy better health and improved family relationships. They also require less medical and psychiatric care. Benefits are evidenced through feedback from clients and their families and from Medical sources. We believe that no harm can come from the purpose of the charity. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is the employment of the minister and other staff of the church, who receive certain benefits as a result of their employment. However, this is incidental and necessary in order to further our advancement of religion and related charitable purposes. There are no other private benefits. As all of our activities are open to the general public and advertised to them, our beneficiaries include our members, their families, clients and the community in which we minister.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
We hold two services of worship each Lord’s Day and a Bible study and prayer meeting each week. We have a Mother and Toddlers Group and a weekly meeting for children. We also have a ministry to those suffering from addiction and their families which meets twice each week. We visit our members and clients at home and in hospital and are available
by phone as required. We seek to reach people outside of the Christian faith as well as building up and nurturing those who profess it, through the preaching and teaching of the word of God as contained in the Bible, and through pastoral support and visits. We operate a Holiday Bible Club each summer. We contribute to our denomination’s summer camps. We hold special public meetings from time to time to give the Christian viewpoint, and for evangelistic purposes. We support local community activities and engage with the PSNI as the situation requires. We endeavour to support a number of missionary societies and missionaries, both inside and outside our denomination. We distribute invitations to meetings and Christian literature to homes in North Belfast and the surrounding area. We also seek to support individuals who find themselves in need either at home or abroad.
