Closkelt Highland Dancers provides public benefits in the form of teaching highland dance and educating those children partaking in the dance classes, ensuring high quality tuition is provided, helping to promote and sustain individual and collective awareness and competence in the area of education Highland Dancing. It provides a healthy activity

and lifestyle for those living in a rural and isolated area, developing teamwork and building on good relations. The public also benefits as it promotes the arts, culture, and heritage . The children learn the history and legends behind each of the dances they are taught. This also benefits the public in regards to highland dancing traditions as explanations of the dances are given at any performances so enriching the public knowledge and interest in Highland Dancing and its cultural tradition. The benefits to the public are clearly demonstrated with a recognisable sense of appreciation for ulster scots culture and heritage and a sense of identity and confidence in those learning the dances. The progression of the dancers skills as they learn new dances and techniques are also visible. The highland dancing group also provides public benefits in the form of bringing the whole of the community together for events and performances. It crosses all age ranges and gives a sense of civic pride as the community can see family and local people perform at community events and end of year performances. The beneficiaries of this organisation are the children and young people within the Closkelt and surrounding area. There is no potential for harm and there is no private benefit being gained.

What your organisation does

Closkelt Highland Dancers provide skilled dancing tuition classes for Children and young people living within the Closkelt and South Down area. During the sessions attendees are given a history of the dances and are provided with Ulster-Scots cultural information. They also participate in some local community events and performances during the

year.
