Public benefits
We believe that our band, Mullabrack accordion band gives everyone the chance to learn a new skill, young and old, as our current membership of 33 is between the ages of 5 and 50 years. We provide somewhere safe and secure within the rural community, to have a direct benefit of individual tutoring in accordion playing, drumming and marching. We
believe this shows how important our music is as we have musicians from a range of age groups and throughout different generations. Our band attends church services, BB/GB Enrolments, concerts, parades, carol services, fates and festivals, remembrance services, and recently we have performed on the John Toal Show on BBC Radio Ulster. Our members have also used this new skill to perform in school concerts, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and have given talks in their classes on our bands historical past, we also have had girls play their accordions in nursing homes for their residents, this shows how this area of the arts can interact with other areas within our community. Work hard at keeping our repertoire vibrant and worried, we play marches, hymns, carols and popular music, this ensures we satisfy our varied audiences and meet the needs of all. We never forget just how important the public support for our music at different events contributes to the continued existence of our band. This also shows how this playing meets the needs of the community and how interested there are in this field of the arts. We have organised events such as dance classes, dances, themed nights, BBQ's and dinners, all of which were greatly supported by the community, band members, their families and friends. We believe we are filling a gap with regard to the lack of amenities for everyone within the Mullabrack area. Our band has become an integral part of the lives of not only our members Bob also the community and general public. It also ensures that we retain the traditional and historical links that are rural area has with marching band music.

We provide musical tuition to a range of children and adults between the ages of 5yrs and 50yrs. We practice from 7.30pm-9.00pm and this ensures that we give our members quality practice time and one to one time for learners. We teach all members to read music, learn a scale, stretch fingering techniques, drumming and marching techniques. We play
part music to compliment our melodies and not just melody playing in isolation. We also attend training which we believe is very important to the overall running of our band e.g. child protection, first aid, marshalling etc. we recognise how vital this is in order to protect our members and the public and enables our band to provide the best possible service within the arts. We attend annual parades, church services, carol services, fetes and festivals, enrolments, we preform in concerts and we have recently appeared on BBC Radio Ulster. We also organise group activities to keep our membership high and attract new members eg bowling, skating, cinema nights, onesie parties, day trips, dances, discos and fun nights to name a few. We want the art of accordion music to continue in our Mullabrack area for the sake of the youth and to ensure that such music is not lost to future generations.
