Public benefits

Purpose 1: To assist the local community through safety provision and promoting the preservation of life. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 include access to voluntary Services e.g. Voluntary Community Assistance, Voluntary Helping Hands, Voluntary safety provision. Which in turn leads to improved mental health, participation, social

inclusion, raised awareness around health issues (mental and physical) and the increased participation and involvement in community and social events of all sections of the community including our youth and older people. These are benefits are demonstrated through both written and verbal feedback and through formal and informal evaluation gathering qualitative and quantitative information. Purpose 2: Advance education on their work. The direct benefits that flow from purpose 2 include; Access to volunteer delivered information sessions and workshops. These are delivered throughout the district within Schools, Youth Forums and Community Centres. These workshops and information sessions highlight the dangers of Drug and Alcohol misuse, gambling awareness, Depression, suicide awareness/intervention, crisis intervention and the dangers surrounding local rivers, quarries and waterways. This in turn educates and adds to the skills development of the local community. These are benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants and other organisations, completed evaluations and attendance records. Purpose 3: To Provide Services in the interest of public Safety. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 3 include; implementation of a programme of activities/training based upon the identified safety needs of the area within the Strabane District. The provision of training on a variety of disciplines to enhanced services for the community and wider district at large. The local and wider community having the confidence and knowledge of a local base of volunteers who work in partnership with the emergency and statuary agencies to promote their health and well being. This in turn creates a positive atmosphere in which the wider community can participate in a varied range of activities which enhances their quality of life, raised self-esteem, reduces social isolation and encourages community participation. These benefits are demonstrated through records of activities/training etc. Attendance records and by the value placed upon this service by the Emergency and Statuary Agencies. The beneficiaries of our organisation are those living in the Strabane District Area and further afield as required. The Emergency and Statuary Agencies through joint assistance. The wider community through safety provision and awareness. The wider community also benefit indirectly though our volunteers providing an outreach programme to tackle specific issues around safety provision, water awareness and mental health. Our community organisation is represented on a number of community and statuary committees which ensures that we have our finger on the pulse of our community needs and expectations. Our representation on these committees afford us a voice which we use to further enhance the lives of our community through community engagement. The wider community benefits as the profile of the area is raised through the work of our community volunteers which has a positive impact on the wider community and its environs. There is no harm related to any of these benefits.

What your organisation does

To promote the social, health and wellbeing of all of the inhabitants of the district through voluntary community assistance and support, we also assist in the tackling of poverty and social isolation within the district. Our volunteers provide a voluntary 24 hour response and support service 365 days of the year to the local community district

wide. Our volunteers are trained in and trainers of a number of disciplines ranging from First Aid, Paediatric First Aid, Fire Safety, Health and Safety, AED Drug and Alcohol, Gambling Awareness. They also hold Certificates in Remote Access Emergency Care, Crisis intervention, suicide intervention, rural and urban Search and Water Rescue, Community Support and Education & Community First Responders. Our volunteers have attended and attend refresher courses on Defeat Depression, Aware, Assist, Mind Fitness, Drug and Alcohol Addiction Awareness to ensure up to date information and advice to enable the correct sign posting of services for those in need. Our volunteers have also achieved train the trainer certifications child protection and vulnerable adult courses which are annually renewed. We visit local schools and youth group facilities as well as areas of poverty and social isolation to raise awareness as to the dangers of Drug and Alcohol abuse as well as safe use and access of the Districts Rivers and waterways. We are represented on a number of voluntary and statuary committees providing community support and assistance. Our volunteers respond voluntarily to any incidents that threaten the social, health and welling of the districts inhabitants. This includes Water Rescue, Flooding and other inclement weather such as snow and high winds where we provide sandbags, clear snow and debris to ensure access to and from services for those in need. Our volunteers provide voluntary flood/water rescue, first aid training and safety cover at local charitable and community events.

Charitable purposes

2.1 The project is established to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Strabane District Council area and environs (Herein after described as"the area of benefit") without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinions, in association with statutory authorities, community/voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to: 2.1.1 To assist the local community through Safety Provision and promoting the preservation of life. 2.1.2 Advance education on the work. 2.1.3 Provide services in the interest of community/public safety.
