Public benefits

The direct benefit flowing from our amateur football is a safe and neutral environment for our players and coaches to train, play football and team building for all ages. The benefits are evidenced from the parents of the youth teams and also young adults who are keeping fit and a credit to their community. This purpose does not lead to any harm

unless physical injury. The benefits are for all participating within the environment of the Mourne country side. Another benefit is bringing together the local community to improve the facilities at the playing fields. Further benefits is a more vibrant and inclusive society via training programs for coaches and full recreational activities. These benefits are evidenced by the diverse attendance at matches for both youth and senior teams. The direct benefits flowing from this is an improved, healthier group of people both young and older. This is evidenced by feedback both qualitative and quantitative from all our local community in Mourne. The private benefit for our members is that they are gaining a healthier lifestyle together with team building across all the different age groups and between them.

What your organisation does

Our Amateur football club has been in existence since 1976. We have four youth teams within our youth setup playing in the Carnbane league in Newry and three senior teams playing in the Newcastle and District league. Our youth teams range from two under 10's to one under 12's and one under 14's. They train twice a week with qualified coaches and

play matches on Saturdays or mid-week in the summertime. Our three senior teams play in three different divisions of the Newcastle and District league and all 3 have won their divisions in the last 5 years. Our first team reached the semi final of the County Antrim Junior shield this year and were only beaten in the last minute of extra time at Clifftonvilles ground. Our senior squad ranges from 16 year olds to players in their fifties. It takes a lot of expense to run all these teams and we have a progressive committee running the club with fund raising events and members fees to bring in finance. We currently have been leased 4.5 acres of Council playing fields for fifty years on the Carrigenagh Road near Kilkeel. We are presently upgrading the area using some of our own funds but we are seeking major funding for a purpose built pitch and changing facilities on site.
