1. Encourage the development of instrumental skills by providing tuition in the flute/drum and the related competencies to persons of all ages, sexes and abilities within Garryduff and surrounding areas. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 are the education of people in the art of the flute and drum and a platform to perform with their
instrument and continually develop their level of skill and knowledge. These benefits are demonstrated through the numbers of people joining and remaining as members of the Band, as well as feed-back received from our members, learners and others who attend our events/performances and make use of the musical services provided by the Band. There is no identifiable harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries for this purpose are the people who receive tuition, our members who will continue to develop their musical skills and other people who will be able to avail of the services of a flute band when they require one. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose will be to those who receive the necessary training to allow them to achieve this purpose. This benefit is incidental and necessary to achieve the purpose. 2. Promote interest in Flute Band musical traditions to all people within Garryduff and surrounding areas. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 are increased understanding and awareness of the unique musical tradition by all people within Garryduff and the surrounding areas. These benefits are demonstrated through feed-back received from our members and those who attend our events and performances as well as those who make use of the services of the Band. There is no identifiable harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries for this purpose are those people who will be able to make use of the services that can be provided by the Band. No private benefit flows from this purpose. 3. Preserve the existing repertoire and develop the genre of Flute Band music to encourage its continued enjoyment and acceptance by all people within Garryduff and surrounding areas. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 3 are increased understanding and awareness of the musical tradition by members of the general public and a continued development of the flute band musical genre resulting in improved musical performance. These benefits are demonstrated through feed-back received from the members of the Band regarding the variety and complexity of music that they are able to perform and the people who attend our events and performances. There is no identifiable harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries for this purpose are the general public, through their opportunity to appreciate the musical performances and the members of the Band who will continue to develop their musical skills. Private benefit may arise from this purpose to our members who will receive the necessary training to allow them to achieve this purpose. This benefit is incidental and necessary to achieve the purpose. 4. Promote the Ulster-Scots tradition, culture and history through education to all members of the Band and people within Garryduff and surrounding areas. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 4 include increased understanding and knowledge within the community about the distinct Ulster-Scots tradition, culture and history. These benefits are demonstrated through feed-back received from members of the Band and others who attend our events as well as by government agencies that have been set up to assist groups to deliver the promotion of Ulster-Scots heritage and culture. There is no identifiable harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are all people living in Garryduff and surrounding areas through the advancement of education. We are a marching flute band based in Garryduff, two miles outside the town Ballymoney. Our membership is made up of men, women, boys and girls and the band is run by an experienced committee under an approved constitution. We have in place guidelines for working with children and vulnerable adults. We provide tuition in flute and drum in
addition to providing musical services for other local organisations. We also give people an opportunity to learn about their Ulster-Scots culture and history through the organisation of lecture, workshops and field trips to places of historical and cultural significance. All these services are provided in a welcoming, safe environment. We take part in many concerts, community events and charity events throughout the year in addition to attending other band parades and competitions.
