Public benefits

The Trustees believe that the 4 purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Object 1 : The promotion, expansion, upkeep, maintenance and furnishing of establishments for educational and recreational facilities. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose include: i) providing recreational/community centre facilities in

areas of social and economic deprivation for the benefit of the residents at large, and to support the advance of the improvement of the quality of life for those attending the facilities: ii) acquire, develop, expand, maintain, furnish educational facilities to advance education in relation to students/populations accessing education facilities, including Play Groups, Nursery Schools, Primary Schools, Post Primary Schools and Community education facilities. Object 2: The provision of facilities for training in industry in the Ardoyne area by the acquisition of establishments for the provision of such training facilities for employment, and the development and training of local crafts and skills. The direct benefit which flows from the purpose is urban regeneration within Ardoyne, recognised as an area of social and economic deprivation. The benefits will include: the acquisition of land and establishments for the provision of training and employment opportunities for unemployed people; provision of help to unemployed people in order to find employment; provision of education, training and re-training opportunities and work experience for the unemployed and the Ardoyne population at large; provision, maintenance and improvement of recreational facilities; and provision of facilities for the development and training of local crafts and skills in the Ardoyne area. An intended positive impact from the regeneration projects on the Ardoyne community at large flows from the improvements to the economic and social environment. Object 3 : The advancement and improvement of the quality of life, by the promotion and provision of educational and training courses, exhibitions, congresses, and other educational activities. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose are the advance of education in respect of: acquiring basic life skills such as literacy, numeracy, citizenship, personal development; the capacity for life long learning; supporting the physical education of young people; and participation in training courses or other educational activities which improve quality of life. Object 4 : The promotion and establishment of scholarships, grants and other educational aids. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose are the provision of individual/ group/community education scholarships, grants and other educational aids that advance education for the public benefit including promoting, sustaining and increasing individual and collective knowledge and understanding of specific areas of study, skills and expertise. Beneficiaries of Purposes & avoidance of Harm The beneficiaries of purposes 1,3 & 4 are the citizens of Northern Ireland with particular, but not exclusive responsibility for the inhabitants of North Belfast. The beneficiaries of purpose 2 are the wider community in the Ardoyne area. The 4 purposes do not give rise to any harm. Private Benefit While some private benefit may flow from purposes 1,3 & 4 in relation to the provision and use of the educational and recreational facilities or through the promotion of activities to support third party charities/organisations who employ staff to manage the activities in the facilities, they are a necessary, but incidental element of the fulfilment of the charitable purposes. While some private benefit may flow from purpose 2 in relation to the use of the training establishments for industry in the Ardoyne area which records high levels of unemployment, such activities are likely to outweigh any private benefit accruing to employers, and as such the activities are a necessary, but incidental elem

Object 1 : The promotion, expansion, upkeep, maintenance and furnishing of establishments for educational and recreational facilities for the local residents in the deprived area and the provision and support for educational facilities for the beneficiaries attending the educational facilities, including development of new schools & development of

local community centres. Object 2: The provision of facilities for training in industry in the Ardoyne area by the acquisition of establishments for the provision of such training facilities for employment, and the development and training of local crafts and skills which benefit the Ardoyne population at large eg Flax Community Centre. Object 3 : The advancement and improvement of the quality of life, by the promotion and provision of educational and training courses, exhibitions, congresses, and other educational activities. The individuals advancing their education may be supported to embark upon individual courses/programmes or supported to attend formal or informal educational or training activities in Play Groups, Nursery, Schools, Colleges, Universities, other Community education/Training facilities available to the population at large or through the support of community or other organisations achieving the charitable object. eg support for Numeracy & literacy schemes in number of schools, 400 pupils from 16 schools participate in annual inter-school choral awards. Object 4 : The promotion and establishment of scholarships, grants and other educational aids which are organised and/or presented to advance the knowledge or abilities of Beneficiaries eg in formal school, college, university settings, or community activities, physical activities, creative education, vocational training, life long learning, research and the development of individual capabilities, competencies, skills and understanding. eg 25 University student Bursaries in community development, Community master classes.
