Public benefits

The public benefits that flow from the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation are: (i) improvements in fitness and health and sense of well-being for all ages; (ii) improved community life and greater social cohesion; (iii)connects young people to their communities and provides them with attractive alternatives to risk-taking

and/or anti-social behaviours. The beneficiaries are the general public. These benefits are evidenced through health studies and surveys which conclude that participation in sport and recreational activities improves health and well-being and strengthens social cohesion. No harm or private benefit arises from these purposes.

What your organisation does

St Canices is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in Dungiven. The club currently accommodates gaelic football, ladies football with players of all ages being catered for, from the fundamental age group [preschool ] reception classes through underage, seniors and reserves for the older athletes who still wish to participate in a healthy lifestyle.

the organisation is in the heart of Dungiven centrally located in the town but also in the community - the hub for all celebrations and social activities. our aim is to promote community participation in healthy recreation through the provision of facilities for amateur sports and recreation for all ages. we promote fitness for the benefit of the general public and in particular promote the participation in gaelic games. Our premises cater for all events. we run annual festivals we provide facilities for spinning classes, dancing classes, gym training, keep fit classes, weight loss programmes, we have our drama group who put on plays annually, we bring theatre, plays and entertainment for the benefit of our community to our premises. We coach underage girls and boys football 5 days a week, run summer camps for over 300 underage children for 2 weeks every year

Charitable purposes

The Club is established for the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for amateur sports and recreation facilities that promote fitness for the benefit of the general public in Dungiven and its environs [hereinafter called the "area of benefit" ] and in particular to promote gaelic games for the benefit of the general public in the area of benefit.
