Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the purpose of the Schomberg Festival Committee are an increased knowledge and awareness of Ulster-Scots re-enactments and performances of our history and heritage within the Kingdom of Mourne, Ulster and beyond. Through training, workshops, exhibitions, talks and lectures and events organised by the Schomberg

Festival Committee, many people both locally and from further afield obtain a better knowledge and understanding of our history and culture of the Ulster-Scots identity and enjoy many of the social activities associated with the group including public performances of drama. The benefits are evidenced through the large numbers of people attending our events including concerts, summer schools, lectures, talks and exhibition, workshops, training courses and other activities which have been well documented in both the local press and media and through regular evaluations and monitoring. We can see no harm by any of the purposes of our charity. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public in the Kingdom of Mourne, Ulster and beyond. The only private benefits from our purpose is that students and young people gain a better knowledge and understanding of the Ulster-Scots identity. Schomberg Festival Committee benefits the community as a whole by delivering a high quality Ulster-Scots Festival in the Kingdom of Mourne which attracts thousands of spectators every year.

What your organisation does

Schomberg Festival Committee organises Ulster-Scots Festival, with the Reivers Ulster-Scots Festival during the Summer time attracting thousands of spectators. We aim to showcase all aspects and characteristics of our rich and much valued culture here in the Kingdom of Mourne. Our festival programme includes a wide and varied mix of activities

and events on offer which contains Ulster-Scots musical and dance activity through on-stage performances, workshops, exhibitions as well as on-street musical and dance performances. Highland Dance and lambeg drum exhibitions and workshops including concert performances at both indoor and outdoor venues will promote the high standards of our music and dance traditions here in the Kingdom of Mourne. Living History participation within the 11th Night Pageant and open-air concert are all part of a wide and varied programme that offers something for everyone from all cultural backgrounds and ages (both young and old and one which is most family-friendly orientated). The Schomberg Festival Committee wishes to host events which can be enjoyed by all and both our spectators and performing acts will be inspired by it. Schomberg Festival Committee seeks to use the highest standard and quality of performers at our events in order to showcase the best of our Ulster-Scots identity and inspire our audience to become involved in Ulster-Scots activities. We aim to work with the local council and Northern Ireland Tourist Board in order to promote our Reivers Festival to a worldwide audience, including visitors from the USA.
