Public benefits
The Trustees believe that the purpose satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose include raising awareness of age appropriate based learning among parents and carers and the provision of early education for children under statutory school age, regardless of religion, culture, race or
means, in Portadown. The direct benefits for children will include all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as appropriate for each child’s needs, interests and stage of development, through play; as follows: • Communication and language development through giving the children opportunities to experience a rich language environment, which will include native and foreign language appropriate to the class mix. In recent years we have had a significant number of children attending from the Polish community. We therefore currently employ a Polish Support Worker to assist with these children and their families. All of the children will be helped to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves and how to speak and listen in a variety of situations. • Personal and social development will be provided by helping the children to develop a positive sense of self and others. They will be encouraged to form positive relationships and learn to respect others. They will be helped to develop social skills, learning how to manage their feelings, understand how to behave appropriately in groups and be confident in their own abilities. • Literacy and Mathematics. The children will be given access to a range of reading materials to encourage their interest and help to link sounds and letters, to set the foundations for learning to read and write. They will be helped to develop basic counting skills and begin to recognise shapes. • Understanding the world. The children will be helped to make sense of their physical world and community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places and the environment through school visits to the setting of the nurse, the hairdresser, the postman, lollypop lady, fireman, policeman and paramedic. • Expressive arts and design. The children will be enabled to explore and play with a range of media and materials and given the opportunity to share their own thoughts, ideas and feelings through art, music and movement. • Physical Development. The children will be given opportunities to be active to help develop their co-ordination, control and movement. They will be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, healthy eating and encouraged to talk about ways to keep healthy and safe. They will be encouraged to manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs, including dressing and going to the toilet independently. • The children will be prepared for transition to primary school education. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from parents, Early Years Advisors and regular evaluation of the service by Social Services and the Education Department Inspectorate. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of the purpose are children under statutory school age living in Portadown and its surrounding area. They also include parent and carers of children under statutory school age in Portadown and its surrounding area. A private benefit flowing from this purpose is that gained by Trustees from on-going training in good governance, finance etc; which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
