Our purposes satisfy the elements of the public benefit requirement: Key Purpose 1:’ advancing public education in the art and science of film, television, video and multi-media’ The benefits that flow from this purpose: Promotion of access to high quality cultural and learning experiences throughout the year for the charity’s beneficiaries.
Cinemagic benefits young people by educating, motivating and inspiring them through exposure to and participation in, the art and science of film, television, video and multi-media. Cinemagic’s use of film has a strong educational value; it is a highly effective and dynamic teaching and learning tool. As well as being an enjoyable, entertaining and versatile arts/cultural form, film, television and cinema ignites curiosity and creates active and memorable learning, it develops a broad range of life and employability skills and it has a positive impact on attainment across learning abilities. Cinemagic works closely with educators to support and improve the curriculum they teach and to ensure the processes used are relevant and presented in a suitable manner. Cinemagic’s work adds value to the education system, it is a key vehicle in educating, and inspiring young people by providing skills-based learning that is transferable in the classroom and future workplace. Other benefits include broadening individuals’ cultural horizons through enhanced public understanding of the world around them through access to independent and world cinema and local film production which helps to put it in context. Cinemagic’s advances the arts access and advances education by providing unique opportunities to young people, opportunities that no other organisation is delivering on this scale, engaging directly with 40,000 people annually. Cinemagic promotes the craft of film making and the many creative skills involved. Our ethos is underpinned by the belief that experiencing film and filmmaking helps young people become critical thinkers, allows them to examine society and discover different cultures. Cinemagic contributes to individuals’ cultural, creative and personal development. Cinemagic develops the following individual capabilities: creative thinking skills, creative writing skills, communication skills, negotiation skills, teamwork skills, employability skills and a deepening awareness of tolerance and mutual understanding. Key Purpose 2 ‘providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants’ The benefits that flow from this purpose are: Promotes equality, enhanced knowledge of arts and culture and social exclusion contributing to improved quality of life. Promotes opportunities to empower and enrich the lives of the beneficiaries and stimulate expression, creativity and innovation. It encourages development of personal confidence, self-esteem and new skills which help develop talent and encourage employment. Other benefits include enhanced impact and reach of film and television; stimulating discussion on social issues and encouraging young people to express their opinions and develop an understanding of diversity; improved levels of achievement and the longer term life chances of disadvantaged young people by unlocking creativity, breaking down barriers and providing the necessary support which can enable those young people to reach their full potential. These above benefits of the two key purposes are evidenced through written feedback from beneficiaries and feedback from their families, audiences, funders and stakeholders. The beneficiaries of our two key purposes are children & young people aged 4-25 years old living in Northern Ireland and outside of Northern Ireland (with touring programmes in Dublin, London, Castres (France), New York and Los Angeles). They also include teachers and community leaders. There is no harm flowing from the purposes. No individual or organisation gains a private benefit.

Cinemagic provides a culturally rich and diverse programme of film and television related opportunities on a year round basis for young people aged 4-25 from all backgrounds in Northern Ireland. Cinemagic has a dedicated outreach and education programme that offers equality of opportunity to young people and uses film as the vehicle to stimulate
discussion and debate to educate, motivate and inspire young people. Cinemagic produces and award winning, world class film festival programme consisting of specialized and independent film as well as blockbusters and Hollywood studio films. Young people get the chance to see the very best in cultural and popular film and this opportunity would not exist without the arts based learning and inspiration that Cinemagic provides. Cinemagic delivers a rich programme celebrating film heritage and cinema culture, offering young people the chance to engage with this vibrant and contemporary art form. Cinemagic provides a comprehensive programme of educational workshops and industry masterclasses hosted by top industry professionals, ensuring that young people are learning from the best in the business, and ensuring that they gain an invaluable insight to the creative industries. Cinemagic hosts an annual Young Filmmaker Competition which receives hundreds of entries from young filmmakers all over the the UK and Ireland and which gives young talent a platform and an outlet to celebrate their achievements. Cinemagic provides a culturally diverse programme designed to increase audience participation in the arts and to offer creative, educational opportunities for all young people, with special emphasis on sections of society that struggle to participate in the arts due to social or economic limitations. Cinemagic's main area of work is in Northern Ireland with touring programmes in Dublin, New York and Los Angeles once a year.
