Public benefits

We have 4-5 artists benefiting from having a dedicated studio in our workspace at any time. We also allow for former residents to stay on board as members and take advantage of our mentoring and network opportunities and our events. We support artists and creatives with business planning and career strategy, and to start up as self-employed by

sharing of network and contacts, and helping them develop their careers as professional artists and entrepreneurs with practical startup support. Capitalising on our collective experiences and skills we create partnerships with arts and business organisations and with other similar organisations to benefit and further the development and careers of the artists. All the artists have furthered their career and income opportunities while based in King Street Arts Collective’s workspace by having access to professional studio facilities, professional network and support. As a group we have not run any workshops/classes yet, but we are seeking funding to run creative entrepreneurship and skills workshops. We have run one large event (Culture Night, Sept 2015) in the past year in partnership with Epic Promotions and Folktown CIC, with 1000+ audience. The event took place in our local square, Bank Sq, showcasing our capacity as a group and our local talents to a large and diverse group of people. Our Christmas Fair in 2014 had 8 stalls and attracted a small number (ca. 60) of participants, helping to showcase our artists though public exposure. We will measure the benefits through one-to-one interviews and surveys with our members and participants. We will be monitoring the progress of the individual artists recording to the goals they have set out. At any of our events and workshops we will be doing surveys among participants to establish if outcomes and benefits are met. The beneficiaries of King Street Arts Collective are artists based in Northern Ireland. There is no potential harm from our activities. No trustees of King Street Arts Collective or others benefit privately from our activities. Helping them advance their ideas and careers so that they in turn can help develop the sector, and enrich people’s life through inspiring work Helping them develop their careers as professional artists and entrepreneurs so that they can sustain themselves financially though self-employment Form and expand networks within the creative sector nationally and internationally to help further their careers, and to help promote local creative initiatives and works in a positive way beyond Belfast and Northern Ireland, to the benefit of the artists and entrepreneurs, but also to the benefit of people generally in Northern Ireland by attracting interest and resources to Northern Ireland. Benefit to the local community in and around King St, by: Helping to create an active neighbourhood with positive daytime and evening time activities and events, which will encourage more people to use the area, hence making it feel safer and also increase footfall in the local outlets. Creative initiatives that can be carried out in the local area, such as public artwork, outdoor events, exhibitions and workshops, which will attract new visitors and tourists to the area and increase footfall. These initiatives will also help re-image an area that has been stigmatised after the recent Troubles and make it more inviting to people from across the city and the region. Extending our network to the local community, youth and arts groups to help them further their local regeneration initiative, the ‘Folktown Initiative’. This initiative is a bottom-up community development and regeneration project that uses culture, arts and heritage to revitalise the area around King St/Castle St/Bank Sq. Adding our resources and time will further help them develop the local area socially and economically.
