Public benefits

The aims and objectives of Cullybackey Fife and Drumming Club are (a) to provide a local educational resource (b) to promote and preserve the heritage of local people, in particular those who reside in the Cullybackey area (c) to promote cultural confidence and civic pride, bolster morale of the community and harness the abilities of local

people (d) to facilitate the examination, exploration and appreciation by all, of Fife and Drum history, heritage and culture in an open and positive manner to encourage mutual understanding The benefits which flow from all four purposes are the same and include an increased awareness of the cultural heritage associated with the playing of traditional music. These benefits have been and will be demonstrated through the organisation of musical tuition, the arrangement of musical events and the provision of musical accompaniment where and when requested. We have not identified any harm flowing from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are the members of Dunnygarron Orange Lodge and the general public of the Cullybackey and wider area. We are not aware of any incidental or necessary private benefit flowing from this purpose. The Club was formed in 2002 to fulfil a need that had been identified in the local community to re-kindle interest in the traditional music associated with the Ulster Scots culture. Since then the club has arranged and facilitated tuition for lambeg drumming and playing the fife on a consistent basis. From September through to July each year, weekly tuition sessions have been held in Dunnygarron Orange Hall. In addition, bespoke workshops focussing on lambeg drum assembly have been arranged and a number of local people have benefited through attendance.
