Purpose The Hartford Friendship Club is established for the relief of those in need providing social, recreational and educational activities for the over 55’s in Armagh and surrounding areas. What benefits flow from this purpose • The prevention of loneliness and isolation by enabling the elderly to meet regularly • Members are given information
on statutory rights and welfare benefits from professional and relevant agencies • New skills are developed through classes in a range of topics including flower arranging, crafts, art etc. • Talks and lectures are arranged from local councils, citizens advice, PSNI, pharmacies to inform members • Pamphlets/leaflets are distributed to inform members about scams, entitlements etc. • We provide opportunities to socialise by providing a range of entertainment e.g. singing, dancing, music • We provide a healthy supper for members and an annual Christmas Dinner • We arrange an annual coach trip The benefits are evidenced through • The Secretary’s annual report demonstrates the activities in which members have been involved in. This was submitted with the original application. The over 55’s have benefited from coach trips to places of interest, monthly meetings, dancing, talks on various topics, educational classes. We also have annual dinners and buffet suppers at meetings. • We have had increased membership over the last number of years and we feel this is due to the verbal promotion of the club by members, who have gained a lot of support from the club. • At meetings members are able to contribute to planning of activities. Suggestions are always welcome. Harm • No harm flows from our activities. Trained first aiders attend meetings and are available to help any elderly person in the event of illness/accident. Public Element The charity’s beneficiaries are… • Members of the Hartford Club, all over 55 years, and who live in the Armagh City and District area. Is there any private benefit No private benefit is received by Committee members or individual members. All monies raised benefit the group and help finance the group and help to finance its activities. There is one nominated charity each year for which members raise money by holding a coffee morning. The clubs meets once a month and has a membership of around 60. Activities include talks on a range of subjects e.g. powerpoint presentation on The Somme, Water Aid, singing and dancing. Buffet meals, Christmas dinners, music and entertainment. We also arrange trips to places of interest including Belfast, Portrush and Enniskillen. To provide
classes which will develop new skills e.g. crafts, flower arranging and art. Opportunity is provided for the distribution of pamphlets and leaflets to enable members to develop awareness e.g. scams, entitlements. Lectures are arranged from statutory and professional bodies e.g. local councils, citizens advice, police for the information of members.
