The Newtownabbey Hearing Hub is a Local Deaf Children's Society covering the geographical areas of Newtownabbey, North Belfast, Carrickfergus, Larne and Ballyclare. The society was set up by local parents of

deaf children and aims to provide deaf children and their siblings with opportunities to develop friendships with similar children, boost their self confidence, learn new skills and have fun whilst parents share experiences, discuss issues and ways to overcome them and learn skills and strategies to help their deaf child achieve their full potential. The group is open to any deaf child and their family, regardless of race or religion.

What your organisation does

The hearing hub aims to support the deaf child through a range of activities aimed predominantly at the whole family e.g. family fun days, music classes, sensory experiences, outdoor " family team building", family sign language and a few more directed events where parents can gather information, increase their knowledge and experience of deafness

and discuss openly and honestly the issues/problems they and/or their child is experiencing both within the group and with invited professionals. The overall purpose is to give deaf children a peer group with whom they can develop confidence and discuss issues which are unique to deafness. The Hub also supports the education and dissemination of information to raise awareness of deafness, increase family confidence in communication and support the deaf child in achieving their full potential.
