Our organisation brings together owners, all those interested in in the restoration and usage of vintage commercial vehicles and everyone interested in the historical and heritage value of vintage commercial vehicles. It has a membership of circa. 150 and we have 10 well attended meetings throughout the year. At our meetings we have guest speakers
and members have an opportunity to share and develop their knowledge, experience and technical expertise in the areas of maintenance, restoration and the general usage of our vehicles. We also plan how we can share and promote the historical value of our vintage vehicles with the general public. Our organisation is open to everyone regardless of race, colour, nationality, sex or creed – all that is required is an interest in the rich heritage of our commercial transport and a desire to maintain our vehicles in use for posterity. • Our Northern Ireland network of members allows us to rescue commercial vehicles that would otherwise be scrapped and we arrange for them to be restored and kept in use for historical and heritage purposes. • For the benefit of the general public we arrange drive-outs (normally 5 or 6 per year) and we have static displays at accessible and complimentary events across NI - such as the steam rallies at Shane’s castle and Ballymena Showground. All our events and other relevant information about our vehicles are published in our quarterly news sheet which is available on our Social Media sites – www.UVCVC.com and Facebook. • Through the development of a common interest and exchange of knowledge our members, who come from a diverse cross section of our community, develop a healthy respect for each other and interact in ways that might not otherwise be possible. By sharing expertise and developing skills individual members increase their self-esteem and that of the group in general. This has engendered a tremendous level of co-operation and common purpose between members as is evidenced by their attendance and enthusiastic participation in all our activities. In addition to our own events, members join together to attend similar events throughout the UK and Ireland. • Our organisation interacts with the general public, and to the benefit of the public, through our drive-outs and static displays at public events - e.g. Shane’s Castle & Ballymena. These events showcase our vehicles and promote a greater awareness and appreciation of our vintage vehicle heritage including the development of design and engineering over the years. The presence of our vehicles, which are diverse in their appearance, usage and design, provide a living history of commercial transport over the years. • At public events our experienced mechanics, restorers and enthusiastic owners are on hand to answer questions and give information and advice to interested parties. This stimulates an interest and respect for our vehicles and the innovativeness of previous generations. We find that younger members of the public are fascinated by the vintage vehicles on display. • Public displays and outings are an opportunity to attract new members who will in turn learn the many new skills involved in restoration and maintenance. The knowledge and expertise passed on to new members ensures that the rich heritage that we have preserved will continue to be preserved, enjoyed and passed on to future generations. • The success of our organisation is evidenced by the growth in membership (we started with 10 members in 1981), the continuing increase in attendance at meetings and events and the positive feedback and interest in our social media pages. There is no private gain to any individual member of our organisation. Vehicles on display are supervised at all time to ensure that potential for harm is minimal.

We provide access to our vehicles and physically demonstrate, and explain how engineering and technology has been developed and advanced over the years. We actively encourage people to become involved in the maintenance of our vintage vehicles. This not only ensures maintenance and engineering skills linked to the age of our vehicles are
preserved for the future but also stimulates and helps to develop a healthy interest and respect for all motorised vehicles.
