Public benefits

Purpose: To promote the interests of Kenyans living in Northern Ireland by: 1: Promoting awareness of training, educational and business opportunities The direct benefit which flows from purpose 1 is that beneficiaries will receive information about opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills required for the workplace which in turn improves

employability and promotes integration. Beneficiaries will also be made aware of state and voluntary sector agencies that support individuals who wish to start their own business. These benefits will be evidenced through direct feedback from beneficiaries and the number of beneficiaries assisted in to training, moving into employment and starting their own business. 2: The advancement of health and wellbeing by promoting health issues, leisure and recreational activities to enhance the social wellbeing of the community. The direct benefit which flows from purpose 2 is that Beneficiaries will have more information on health issues and different leisure and recreational activities within Northern Ireland and this will help to improve health within the Beneficiaries. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from the community and through the health and wellbeing of the Beneficiaries. 3: To relieve persons who are in need, poverty and distress by providing advice and support in relation to a variety of issues, including homelessness, asylum and immigration detention, hate crime, health concerns, discrimination and promote training opportunities. The direct benefit which flows from purpose 3 is that advice, guidance and support is given to Beneficiaries on various issues to help the Beneficiaries make informed decisions and guide them to the correct agencies. These benefits will be evidenced through a decrease in the amount of Beneficiaries that are in need in Northern Ireland and are helped in getting the correct support that they need in order to ensure their health and wellbeing is not negatively impacted with stress and anxiety. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. 4: Promoting integration and good community relations by enhancing knowledge and understanding of Kenyan art, music, literature, culture and people amongst the local Northern Ireland population. 5: Fostering a culture that supports positive identity and preserves Kenyan cultural attributes and languages The direct benefit which flows from both purposes 4 and 5 is to introduce the Kenyan culture to Northern Ireland for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone living in NI. It hopes to promote Kenyan culture thus educating the wider public and ultimately leading to a better understanding of different cultures and community cohesion and relieve the feelings of isolation, anxiety and deprivation that may be experienced when moving to a new country. These benefits will be evidenced through the better understanding of the different cultures from feedback from the community. Beneficiaries: Kenyans living in Northern Ireland. Private Benefit No person or organisation connected with KANI receives private benefit.

What your organisation does

KANI brings together Kenyans and friends of Kenya living in Northern Ireland to: 1. Promote integration and improve community relations. 2. Celebrate Kenyan culture and language through organisation of and participation in community functions. 3. Provide advice and signpost Kenyans living in Northern Ireland to statutory and charitable

organisations that provide health, education, social and business services.
